Shishakli_2.gif In 1949, He overthrew the government of Sami al-Hinnawi and got promoted to minister of defense. He started a second coup in 1951, when he arrested the prime minster, Fawzi Selo. When the second coup was over, he started to rule and became the dictator. Shishakly staged a referendum to elect himself president. He supported the west mostly and hated israel. In 1952, he created a political group called Arab Liberation Movement which was under his control. He eliminated many political groups and banned newspapers to rule military power. Adib Shishakly is a former right wing dictator of syria.

Once Syria's Government is overthrown, Adib Shishakly will rule again and Husseini, who is Adib Shishakly's former cheif security is going to provide assurances to make sure Adib Shishakly rule once again. The relationship he had with britain and the U.S. was in between and wasn't either good or bad but in the middle. Britain hope that Shishakly would join plan for a British-led Middle East Defense Organizations. The U.S. gave Shishakly money to settle Palestinian refugees in syria and turn them into Syrians for them. In 1958, Shishakly thought of an idea to return to Syria and create a coup d'etat, using funds provided by Iraq. The coup was not successful. He was later overthrown in 1954 and forced to move to brazil. On 1964, Shishakly was assasinated by Nawaf Ghazaleh who was a syrian druze and who was looking for revenge for the bombardments of Jabal Druze.
